26th October 2006 Windsurfing: Ynyslas Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 25 knots Surf / Sea State: 3-4 foot messy surf Air Temperature: 13ºC Sea Temperature: 14ºC Weather: Sunny spells Max Speed: Distance Covered: Wooohooo... It doesn't get much better than that. AndyW and I launched from Ynyslas around 10am just as the high tide was coming up to the pebbles. I managed to get up and riding and out the back despite the onshore conditions, Andy struggled for a bit, so I came back in to give him some moral support. We then both got a little stuck trying to make headway and get out as the wind had a tiny bit of Northerly in it, so were trying to get going whilst heading upwind and were right next to the pebbles. By continually heading towards the estaury though we were able to get going without any problems as soon as the beach angled away from the wind a little, and then we had an excellent session. Perfectly powered most of the time with a fairly steady 25 knot wind, the odd 20 knot lull or 30 knot gust, but generally perfect 25 knots. I headed across to Graveyards on the Aberdovey side 4 or 5 times, but there was nowehere near as much wind over there so every time I did I had trouble getting going again once I had gybed by the beach. At least there was less waves over there though which made the lack of wind a little easier. It's always a bit worrying to run out of wind when you are so far from home, but once I was back out in the channel there was plenty of wind again allowing me to blast back across to Ynyslas. The waves were pretty big at times too, especially on the Ynyslas side of the Dovey Bouy which was fun, and of course of the beach by the Golf Course Car Park were one or two rinsings ocurred!. Andy seemed to be having a great session too, and just as I was packing up I saw Richard launching from the Golf Course Car Park and heading out into the fray. A perfect day in paradise! |
